Lehel

Lehel, also known as Lele or Lél, († 955 in Regensburg ) was as Bulcsú a commander in the army of the Magyar princes Taksony in the 10th century and 925-955 probably prince of the Principality of Nitra.

As a historical figure Lehel appears in the sources for the Battle of Lechfeld. For example, the Chronicle of the Abbey of St. Gall mentions his capture by the Bohemians. The Chronicle of Ebersberg announced his capture after the battle by the Ebersberg Count Eberhard, who brings him to his execution in Regensburg.

On the figure of Lehel, the shock becomes clear to the outcome of the battle for Hungary meant, which is why the defeat had to be reinterpreted. So reports the Hungarian history " Gesta Hungarorum " from the 13th century, as Bulcsú and Lehel after the lost battle courageously against the German king and threaten him with the murder of thousands of hostages, while a second Magyar Army pushes forward to the Rhine.

Another legend tells how the prisoners Lehel slay the German king by a blow with his horn.

Even today, an alleged Horn Lehel is issued in Jászberény in the museum.
