Leienkaul

Leienkaul is an independent since June 12, 2004 municipality in the district Cochem-Zell, in Rhineland -Palatinate. Previously Leienkaul a district of Laubach. Leienkaul belongs to the municipality Emperor Esch.

Geography

Leienkaul is located in the Eifel region. The municipality also includes the residential places Martentalerhof, Sester Bach, Weierhof and Kloster Maria Martental.

History

Maria Martental ( Martyldal ) was probably founded around 1141 by the monastery Springiersbach and was soon a major pilgrimage site. The town itself was founded Leienkaul end of the 18th century by miners in the district Laubach. By 1900 there were three large farms, namely " Maria- bay ", " Colonia - Shaft" and the " garbage Bacher roof slate work ( Härewiss ) ". Since 1946 Leienkaul is part of Rhineland- Palatinate then newly founded. Leienkaul is an independent municipality since June 2004.

Parish council

The local council in Leienkaul consists of eight council members, who were elected at the municipal election held on 7 June 2009 by majority vote, and the honorary mayor as chairman.

Culture and sights

Worth seeing are the Convent of the Sacred Heart priests and the pilgrimage church of Maria Martental and the listed area " area shale mining and processing Kaulenbachtal ".
