Leif Holmgren

Leif Martin Holmgren ( born May 25, 1953 in Kiruna ) is a retired Swedish professional ice hockey player and coach.

Career

Leif Holmgren began his career as a hockey player with AIK Solna, for the first team, he was active from 1971 to 1984 - first in Division 1 as well as from the 1975/76 season in its successor league Elitserien. With his team won the Center for the seasons 1981/82 and 1983/84 respectively to the Swedish championship title. In 1979 he was also elected to the Swedish All-Star Team. In the 1984/85 season he ran on in the second-class in the meantime Division 1 for Vallentuna BK. Most recently, he played in the 1985/86 season for AIK in the Elitserien, before he ended his active career at the age of 33 years.

From 1990 to 1993 Holmgren served as head coach for his hometown club AIK Solna in the Elitserien.

Internationally

For Sweden Holmgren took part in the World Championships 1978, 1979 and 1983. In addition, he was in the squad of his country at the 1980 Winter Olympics in Lake Placid. At the World Cup in 1979 and the 1980 Winter Olympics, he won with his team bronze medals.
