The University of Technology, Economy and Culture Leipzig - University of Applied Sciences ( Leipzig University of Applied Sciences, Technical University of Leipzig until 1992 ) is a University of Applied Sciences in Leipzig. With approximately 6300 students enrolled the HTWK is the largest university in Saxony. With approximately 70 % of places in engineering ( Civil Engineering and Architecture, Electrical and Computer Engineering, Mechanical and Energy Engineering, Polygrafische technology) and computer science, the HTWK is the largest college of technical education in the region of Leipzig.

History

The HTWK bears since 1992 its present name and was born from the Technical University of Leipzig ( founded in 1977 from the School of Civil Engineering of Leipzig and Engineering Graduate School of Management ), from technical school for librarians and booksellers Leipzig, from the College for academic libraries as well as from the Institute for museology.

Your oldest roots go back inter alia to the subscription, Mahlerey and architecture Academy Leipzig (founded in 1764 by Adam Friedrich Oeser - to its students, among others, Johann Wolfgang Goethe was one ), which was founded in 1838 Royal Saxon Baugewerkenschule to Leipzig, the Municipal Trade School Leipzig (founded 1875) and the technical school for library technology and management Leipzig ( founded in 1914 ). The main building is located at Karl- Liebknecht -Straße. On 23 October 2009, the new building of the Medienzentums in the Gustav- Freytag -Straße was opened.

Enrollment

Every year, about 10,000 (10 October 2010) prospective candidates for the places at the HTWK. On average, yields the approximately four applicants per study place. Regularly, the number of applicants exceeds the capacity. The selection of future students is regulated through a local numerus clausus. To a place in the courses in International Management (Bachelor) and Social Work to apply an average of 16 per prospective study place. Enrolled in each case in the winter semester (now also in masters courses selected in summer semester).
