The / Leipzig Halle Airport railway station is a railway operating point on the new line Erfurt-Leipzig/Halle. The station is located in Schkeuditz at Leipzig / Halle Airport, between the cities of Leipzig and Halle ( Saale). He was, at first, opens only with one-sided connections to Leipzig on 15 December 2002. After completion of commissioning of the first phase of the new line between Gröbers and Leipzig on June 30, 2003, through trains to and from Halle ( Saale) were able to use the airport train station.

The DM 40 million ( 20 million euros ) expensive station ( as of early 2001) was funded by the Free State of Saxony and the German railway.

Construction

The four-track facility has two 410 m long side platforms on the outside passing loops. The two inner tracks are used by moving trains. The platforms are roofed over a length of approximately 300 m by a sail -like shaped plastic membrane that was attached to steel arches. The platforms are located directly below the airport terminal building. Escalators and elevators connect the platforms directly to the Check- In area.

West of the station there is a reciprocal track for ending here regional trains.

History

A cabinet decision of the Saxon government demanded that a new line in the Leipzig area was to lead over the airport.

The station was part of the zoning section 3.2 of the new line. After the planning status of 1995, the station should now be at Baukilometer 102.0 of the new line.

In early 2001 it was announced a delay in the commissioning of the station. Due to geological problems in the former mining area at the railway junction Gröbers the start of the section of Leipzig Gröbers ( Hall ) by one year to 2003 was postponed.

The timetable change on December 15, 2002 was the first section between Leipzig and the airport train station in operation. First, this railcar Class 642 were used. The German railway attributed this to the low ridership. In early 2003 took around 600 passengers per day to half hourly free Airport Express between the airport, the exhibition center and the main railway station of Leipzig. In the node Gröbers ran at that time still working towards linking the new line.

In the spring of 2003, a 24 -hour ticket office was also tested as ticket machines, where local and long distance traffic tickets could be purchased on the same machine for the first time at the station.

As at 30 June 2003, the long-distance transport operations began. The station was serviced by trains while the IC lines 55 (Dresden -Dortmund ) and 56 (Leipzig- Oldenburg). The regional transport line was tied to Halle. On this day, the station was then officially " opened ". Met around 10 clock to a special train from Leipzig and Magdeburg.

The economic feasibility study for the Leipzig City Tunnel went from two to half-hourly intervals superimposed regional express lines between the airport train station and the city center of Leipzig.

Connection

Regional Transport

DB Regio announced in mid-2002 to set up a shuttle service to the airport from the end of the year. A pre-existing underlying transport contract was not before. According to Board of transport Homburg the company had decided to make its customers an attractive offer.

In early 2001, the link to the airport in 20 -minute intervals was provided by regional rail line Halle- Leipzig.

Long-distance traffic

In long-distance trains / Leipzig Halle Airport station by hourly InterCity lines to the cities of Hanover, Magdeburg, Halle ( Saale) and Leipzig is connected. Twice a day service also operates an ICE on the airport train station. In December 2015, the new route should go to Erfurt in operation.
