Leitzach

The Leitzach is 33.5 km long, right or southern tributary of Mangfall in the Bavarian Alps, Bavaria ( Germany ). The Leitzach is eponymous for the Leitzachtal, a portion of which in the Mangfall called Golden Valley close to the intersection.

Course

The river is formed from the confluence of many streams in the source Mangfallgebirge below the origin passport. Main source Bach is the Sillbach, which rises in the Wirthsalm on the eastern slope of the Maroldschneid. It then flows in Ursprungtal to the north, from the union with the Wackbach under the name Aubach, and turns in Bavarian Zell to the northwest. From here the river is called Leitzach. It flows through the Leitzachtal to Feldkirchen -Westerham, where it flows into the Mangfall.

Water

Before the Leitzach opens into the Mangfall, you will already since 1913, extracted from water in the Muehlau and conducted in a 6.7 km long tunnel in the Seehamer lake whose reservoir is used for the operation of Leitzachwerke. The water is conducted after an average of 24 hours in the Mangfall which would accrue to it anyway.

The Leitzach despite these measures and obstruction of hydropower remained a largely semi-natural river. Nevertheless, the removal of the water of the water management authorities consider a serious intervention in nature dar. The Leitzach be removed in summer to 7 m³ / s in winter up to 4.6 m³ / s to the level of the lake with Seehamer to ensure its approximately 6,000,000 m³. Only since 1978 has been subject to contractual agreements that Leitzachwerke must leave at least 0.5 m³ / s in the river.
