Geography

Geographical Location

The municipality is located in the southern region of Wendland on the Lemgow, one formed in the Saale ice age Grundmoränenplateau, which towers above the surrounding lowlands as high surface today. The municipality is part of the velvet municipality Lüchow at (Wendland), which has its headquarters in the city Lüchow ( Wendland).

History

Religions

In the town there are the Evangelical Lutheran Church congregation Lemgow with the parish seat in Schweskau.

Incorporations

On 1 July 1972, the municipalities Bock life, Großwitzeetze, Kriwitz, Predohl, Prezier, Puttball, Schletau, Schmarsau, Schweskau, Simander, Trabuhn and Volzendorf were incorporated into the newly formed community Lemgow.

Policy

The municipality belongs to the Lemgow parliament constituency 48 Elbe and the Bundestag constituency 38 Lüchow -Dannenberg - Lüneburg.

The municipal council of Lemgow consists of 11 council women and councilors.

The honorary mayor Horst Kaufmann was elected on 10 September 2006 for the second time.

Coat of arms

The coat of arms of the municipality is in two parts. Upstairs there is the High Church in Lemgow. Below you can see the church (cross) surrounded by the twelve villages (dashes ).

Structures

The High Church is the landmark of the community. It is dedicated to John the Baptist. Your brick tower dates from the 13th century, built of field stones apse from the 14th century; the central part of the church was renewed in 1770. All components follow different styles. Tower and apse are attributable to the Romanesque, the middle part bears since its renovation baroque features. The organ inside dates from 1856 and was built by Eduard Meyer, Hannover. The church is adjacent an approximately two -acre cemetery with ancient trees and linden alley.

Six other chapels in Bock life, Prezier, Schmarsau, Schweskau, Simander and Volzendorf also belong to the parish.

The St. George's Chapel to Bock life has been built in the middle ages of boulders. The altar is carved out of a stone and painted with Christian themes.

The Holy Three Kings Chapel in Prezier is a native of the Middle Ages stone building. The relatively large steeple dating back to 1785 is striking.

The St. Jacob's Chapel in Schmarsau is built with fieldstone church.

The St. Anthony's chapel to Schweskau is probably in the time of the Christianization of the Lemgows built chapel. 1895 a tower was built to the church. The chapel has only one in the Lemgow a pulpit.

The St. Nicholas Chapel in Simander is a neo-Gothic brick building with a tower dating back to 1865.

The St. Peter's Chapel in Volzendorf dates from the 14th century. It is a field stone chapel with a neo-Gothic brick tower.

Each village in the municipality, which has no chapel has, over a bell tower. The High Church and chapel are all connected by a biking trail.

Economy and infrastructure

Traffic

  • The B - 248 Salzwedel Lüchow -Dannenberg (Elbe ) takes about six kilometers to the west past the municipal area.
  • The B - 493 Uelzen Lüchow- knacks castle is about six kilometers north past the municipal area.

The territory of the municipality Lemgow opened up to 1969 the railroad in the Lüchow- Schmarsauer railroad. Today the company operates the bus line in 1938, between the villages of the municipality Lemgow with Lüchow. Nearest railway station is now Salzwedel with passenger on the train route Stendal - Uelzen, about 13 km south-west of Lemgow.
