Lemminkäinen

Lemminkäinen is a character from the Finnish mythology and one of the heroes in the Finnish national epic Kalevala.

Lemminkäinen asked Louhi, the Hag of the North to her daughter. He would prove to be worthy and got the task to hunt the moose of Hiisi, aufzuzäumen the feuermäuligen stallion by Hiisi and shoot the swan on the river of the underworld Tuonela. The first two tasks mastered Lemminkäinen, but was thwarted at the last, as a shepherd, whom he had previously met once and he had offended by the river waiting to take revenge. Since their first meeting, he had already waited on the river and now Lemminkäinen killed, dismembered him and threw him into the river. Lemminkäinen mother let forge of Ilmarinen a rake and seventh by the river to find the members dimensions of her son. She added together and raised him back to life (see Isis ( Egyptian mythology) ).

Together with Väinämöinen and Ilmarinen he robbed the Sampo (the " Magic Mill" ) of Louhi. But Louhi pursued their ship, and in the battle of Sampo was destroyed.

Parts of the Lemminkäinen myth processed the Finnish composer Jean Sibelius in his Lemminkäinen Suite, and the Finnish metal band Amorphis Silent Waters on the album from the year 2007.
