The Río Lempa is a 422 km long river which originates in Guatemala and flows through Honduras to El Salvador into the Pacific. He is the longest river in El Salvador ( 320 km ) and a hydroelectric power plant Hidroeléctrica Cerrón Grande northeast of the capital San Salvador, the main energy producers in the country.

It supplies about three million Salvadorans with water, electricity and fishing and is an important transportation option represents the government plans to build more dams.
