Lemuy

Lemuy is a commune in the French department of Jura in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Lemuy is situated 630 m above sea level. M., about 18 km north of the city Champagnole (air line). The farming village extends in the Jura, on a vast plateau on the western edge of the Forêt de la Joux, at the edge of the marshy plain of Lizon Supérieur (also called Ruisseau de Lemuy ).

The area of ​​21.33 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the French Jura. The central part of the area occupied by the broad valley of Lemuy, which used to form a vast moorland, but today is mostly drained. In this valley, the streams Ruisseau Ruisseau de Montorge Joncs and unite with the Lizon Supérieur, which drains the area to the north. At the foot of the Côte Ribalet Lizon Supérieur, which belongs to the catchment area of ​​the Source du Lison in Nans -sous -Sainte -Anne seeps. In the west of the municipality bottom of the wooded hill of Saint -Claude ranges.

To the east, the municipality's area extends into the forest area of ​​the Forêt de la Joux. To Lemuy include the hamlet of Pont-à- Moujard (616 m above sea level. M. ) at the foot of the Côte Ribalet near the percolation point of the Lizon Supérieur as well as some individual farms. Neighboring communities of Lemuy are Dournon and Arc- sous- Montenot in the north, Villers -sous- Chalamont and Boujailles in the east, and Supt Montmarlon in the south and Andelot -en- Montagne, Thésy and Abergement- lès- Thésy in the West.

History

Is first mentioned Lemuy in the 11th century. The place name is probably of Celtic origin. Since the 13th century the noble family of Pont -à- Moujard is mentioned, whose castle was demolished by order of King Louis XIV command. Together with the Franche -Comté Lemuy came with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 to France.

Attractions

The village church of Lemuy was built in the 19th century and includes a pulpit from the 18th century. In the chapel of the parish house (19th century) is the statue of Notre- Dame-des- Aventures, which dates from the 15th century. In a clearing in the woods west of the village stands the chapel of Saint -Claude in the 19th century. The stone cross at Pont -à- Moujard was created in the 16th century.

Population

With 231 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Lemuy one of the small towns in the Jura. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (1881 437 people were still counted ), only small fluctuations were recorded since the early 1960s. Lately, however, was again a slow decline in population.

Economy and infrastructure

Lemuy was until well into the 20th century a predominantly coined by agriculture and forestry village. In addition, there are today some of the local small business enterprises, mainly wood processing and retailing. Meanwhile, the village has also changed into a residential community. Many workers are commuters who engage in the larger towns in the vicinity of their work.

The village is located off the major thoroughfares on a secondary road that leads from Andelot -en- Montagne to Dournon. Further road links exist with Thésy, Abergement- lès- Thésy, Arc- sous- Montenot and Montmarlon.
