Lemvig is a town in western Denmark on the south bank of the Limfjord.

Location

The city is located in Northwest Jutland, on the southern bank of the Nissum Bredning a part of the Limfjord. The town has 7141 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2013). Lemvig main town of the municipality of the same name and has been part of local government reform in 2007, in the municipality Lemvig was merged with the municipality Thyborøn - Harboøre, for Region Midtjylland.

The landscape around Lemvig is dominated by the last ice age, and the area was already inhabited in the Stone Age. From the Bronze Age can still be found grave mounds, which are under protection today.

The city itself was built in the Middle Ages, its name was first mentioned in 1234.

The church in the center comes also from the 13th century, it has an untypical for Denmark onion dome and inside richly carved Rococo inventory.

A special attraction of Lemvig is the Planetsti, the planet path. At the edge of the city center you can find a model of the sun, made ​​of bronze in the scale 1:1.000.000.000, ie diameter of about 1.4 m, and in proper intervals corresponding to scale models of all the planets, the dwarf planets Ceres and Pluto respectively as small bronze balls on granite pedestals. Pluto at the edge of the Limfjord is shown in three different ranges to the sun. Comet Halley Anno 1910 is represented by a boxwood hedge.
