Lene Espersen

Lene Espersen ( born September 26, 1965 in Hirtshals ) is a Danish politician of the Conservative People's Party. She was from 2010 to 2011, Foreign Minister of Denmark.

Life

Lene Espersen attended from 1982 to 1984, the Lester B. Pearson United World College of the Pacific in Canada and went on to study economics at the University of Aarhus. There she graduated in 1990 as Master from.

Espersen is a member of the Danish Parliament since 1994. 2001 she was Danish Justice Minister in the Cabinet of Anders Fogh Rasmussen. On 9 September 2008 she was elected as the successor of Bendt Bendtsen for party leader and followed this as Economy Minister after. In a cabinet reshuffle, she was appointed as successor by Per Stig Møller, Minister for Foreign Affairs on 23 February 2010. On January 13, 2011, she resigned from the party leadership after the party base had made partly responsible for the sharp decline of the Conservatives in favor of the voters. Her successor was Lars Barfoed. After the change of government in October 2011, she was replaced as Foreign Minister Villy Søvndal.

Lene Espersen is married and has two sons.
