Lennart Axelsson (musician)

Lennart Axelsson ( born July 11, 1941 in Sweden) is a Swedish jazz trumpeter residing in Hamburg.

Life

Axelsson is originally from a small town in Sweden. After leaving school, he went to the Swedish Air Force, where he was employed in music corps. For more commitment, he went to Switzerland and Germany. Since 1985 he lives in Hamburg.

Musical development

Axelsson started the trumpet as a young school child. He continued to play cornet at the Swedish Air Force in 1967 and made his examination at the Royal College of Music Stockholm. This was followed by several radio productions and concerts in Scandinavia.

In 1970 Axelsson two jobs to: he played both first trumpet in the big band of the Swiss radio DRS as well as first trumpet with James Last & His Orchestra. In 1985 he then moved to the NDR Big Band, where he played until March 2005, the first and solo trumpet. Since his retirement he plays recreational standard in professional big bands.

Axelsson has played with many jazz and pop greats, including Chet Baker, Quincy Jones, Henry Mancini, Johnny Griffin, Joe Pass, Michael Gibbs, Albert Mangelsdorff, Gil Evans, Sal Nistico, Herb Geller, Nils Landgren, Don Menza, Peter Herbolzheimer Toots Thielemans and Renato Anselmi.
