Lennart Bunke

Sten Lennart Bunke ( born April 3, 1912 in Höganäs as Sten Lennart Andersson, † August 17 1988 in Spain) was a Swedish football player. The striker made ​​his debut in 1933 in the Swedish national team for which he scored eight goals in eleven internationals. His brother Torsten Bunke, who played with him at Helsingborgs IF, was also international.

Career

Bunke learned to play football at Höganäs BK, he left with his brother Torsten 1932 in direction Helsingborgs IF. There he played at the beginning of the 1930s on the side of players like Nils Rosén, Nils Axelsson and Knut Kroon in Allsvenskan. In the season 1932/33, he took the club to the third championship in club history, at the same time he recommended for the national team. In June 1933 he made his debut in a 6-2 victory of the national team in the qualifiers for the World Cup finals in 1934 against Estonia in the National Jersey, next to Knut Kroon, the doubly successful Bertil Ericsson, Sven Andersson and his brother Torsten he shone here as scorer and created thus the foundation for successful qualification. Later in the year he played four more matches and scoring three goals, but he was in 1934 no longer situated in the national team, and consequently did not participate in the World Cup finals.

Bunke, who worked at the Swedish Embassy in Moscow, was flown in the title defense in the league in the season 1933/34, especially for the final season game. Consequently, he was also one of the eleven winning the gold medal players. After the descent of the club in the summer of 1935, he remained in the Allsvenskan and switched to IFK Eskilstuna.

In January 1937, the interim relegated to the second division Helsingborgs IF reactivated in a " militia " his former stars, including Bunke helped the club in the summer of the year to a rebirth in the Allsvenskan. He played also returned to the national team in a 4-0 win against Finland in qualifying for the World Cup tournament in 1938, he returned for his sixth international match after four years of absence to the options jersey. With two goals, he was involved in addition to the other goal scorers Erik Persson and Kurt Svanström critical success. Once again, he qualified with the selection for the final competition in the 1-2 defeat against Denmark in October 1937, he denied, however, his last of eleven internationals - in his last five internationals he ran on as team captain. At least until 1939 he played at club level for HIF, then the Second World War also affected Bunke. As a lieutenant he came in late autumn 1939, two appearances, as of April 1940, he was no longer active in the Allsvenskan.

In February 1976 Bunke left Sweden and settled in Spain, where he died at the age of 76 years in 1988.
