Lennoxville, Quebec

Lennoxville is a district or a borough of Sherbrooke, Quebec, Canada. It is located at the mouth of Rivière Massawippi in the Rivière Saint -François and is located about 5 kilometers south of downtown Sherbrooke.

Prior to January 1, 2002 was a separate town. On January 1, Lennoxville was added with a number of other smaller cities to Sherbrooke. A referendum on 20 June 2004 that was directed against the interdependence, did not reach the required majority.

History

Although the family Mallory already in 1804 began to cultivate a place within the city limits, Lennoxville was first settled in 1819. The name was derived from Charles Lennox, 4th Duke of Richmond, who was Governor General of Canada at that time. Jefferson Davis, President of the Confederate States of America during the American Civil War lived a short time in Lennoxville, after he was arrested for treason in 1867 and released from the adhesive.

One of the few Canadian monuments to the war in Vietnam is located in Lennoxville. It is reminiscent of Daniel Bolduc, a resident of the city, who served during the war in the United States Army in 1969 and fell in Vietnam.

Language

Historically, Lennoxville arose when English language community with a growing share of a French-speaking minority. Today, the languages ​​are distributed almost evenly. Education

A number of Canadian educational institutions are located in Lennoxvolle, including the Bishop's University, Champlain Regional College two colleges and Bishop's College School, and Alexander Galt Regional High School. Traffic routes
