Lenny Hambro

William Leonard "Lenny" Hambro, including: Lennie Hambro ( born October 16, 1923 in New York; † September 26, 1995 in Somers Point, New Jersey) was an American alto saxophonist of the swing and modern jazz.

Life and work

Lenny Hambro played at the beginning of his career in the 1940s with Gene Krupa, Billy Butterfield and other swing bands. From 1951 to 1952 he worked with Ray McKinley, from 1952 to 1956 with Machito. He also participated on panels with Chico O'Farrill and Red Norvo at this time. The mid-1950s led Hambro own formations, with whom he recorded and plates. Contributing musicians have included Eddie Costa, Sal Salvador, Clyde Lombardi, Barry Galbraith, Arnold Fishkin and Gus Johnson.
