Lenoir County, North Carolina

Lenoir County is a county located in the state of North Carolina of the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Kinston.

Geography

The County is located in east-central North Carolina and has an area of 1041 square kilometers, of which 6 square kilometers is water area. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Greene County, Pitt County, Craven County, Jones County, Duplin County and Wayne County.

Lenoir County is divided into 12 townships: Contentnea Neck, Falling Creek, institutes, Kinston, Moseley Hall, Neuse, Pink Hill, Sand Hill, South West, Trent, Vance and Woodington.

The County is the regional airport Kinston.

History

Lenoir County in 1791 formed from the defunct Dobbs County, which was named after William Lenoir, a general in the American Revolutionary War and hero in the Battle of Kings Mountain.
