Lentekhi

Lentechi (Georgian ლენტეხი ) is a small town (Georgian: daba ) in the Georgian region of Racha - Letschchumi and Niederswanetien. It is the administrative seat of the homonymous municipality Lentechi and has about 1800 inhabitants (calculated 2006).

Location

The place is surrounded by the mountains of the Greater Caucasus, a good 200 line kilometers northwest of the capital Tbilisi and 45 kilometers north- west of the regional capital Ambrolauri on the right bank of the Zcheniszqali, a right Rioni Creek, upstream of the confluence of the two right-hand tributaries Laskadura and Cheledula. The valley of the Zcheniszqali forms the southern part of the historical province of Svaneti, called Niederswanetien ( Kvemo Svaneti ), sandwiched between the more than 3000 m high Letschchumi - mountain range in the southeast and up to 4009 m ( Laila Lelechi, 20 km north- west of Lentechi ) high Swanetischen mountain range. The latter adjoins from the north Niederswanetien of Upper Svaneti ( Zemo Svaneti ), which today is its main town, Mestia part of Samegrelo and Upper Svaneti region.

History

The village Lentechi received as an administrative center of a Rajons the Georgian SSR in 1969 the status of an urban-type settlement ( according to today's daba, small town ).

Culture and sights

In the area there are a number of Georgian Orthodox church buildings from the 9th to the 11th century. In Lentechi itself contains the castle Lara ski Mingrelian the royal family Dadiani. The town has a local history museum.

Economy and infrastructure

In the area of agriculture Lentechi for the local supply is operated. A certain role tourism plays: the town is the starting point for mountain tours. The construction of a hotel is planned.

Lentechi is connected to the Georgian road network on a road that - initially through the valley of Zcheniszqali - over Zageri and Zqaltubo where the nearest train station is located, leads to the over 100 kilometers to city Kutaisi. In the other direction the road from Lentechi runs the river valley up to the higher villages Niederswanetiens, then try to change hard drive- piste on the 2623 m high Sagar pass into the upper Enguri Valley, which already belongs to Upper Svaneti.
