Leo Abse

Leopold Abse ( born April 22, 1917 in Cardiff, † August 19 2008 in London) was a Welsh barrister, politician ( Labour Party ), an activist for the rights of homosexuals and author.

Career

Abse was nearly 30 years of Welsh Labour MP. He was known for his commitment to the decriminalization of homosexual relations among men and the liberalization of divorce laws. The House of Commons he was from 1958 to 1983 for Pontypool to, then from 1983 to 1987 for Torfaen. After his time as an MP, he wrote several books on politics, based on his interest in psychoanalysis. In July 2008 he published a personal website to give an overview of his life and work.

Leo Abse was the brother of the author Dannie Abse and psychoanalyst Wilfred Abse.
