Leo Mittler

Leo Mittler ( born December 18, 1893 in Vienna, † May 16, 1958 in Berlin) was an Austrian theater and film director and screenwriter.

Life

He studied at the Vienna Academy of Music and Performing Arts and then worked as an actor at theaters in Germany and Austria, from 1910, he took over the theater Regieen. He worked among other things in Berlin at the Volksbühne and the Deutsches Theater.

Since 1926, Leo Mittler was also active as a film director. His most important contribution was the Prometheus film formed during the 1929 socially critical film Beyond the road, which is considered a major work of the proletarian film. 1930 went to Paris mediator and worked for Paramount as a director. About England, he later emigrated to the USA and worked there from 1939 to 1948 as a screenwriter. Then he tried again to work on German and Austrian theaters. In addition to his productions, he also created the German versions of a number of plays, including works of William Inge. Before his death in West Berlin, he also worked for West German television.
