Leo Nucci

Leo Nucci (* April 16, 1942 in Castiglione dei Pepoli in Bologna ) is an Italian opera singer (baritone ). He is married to the Italian soprano Adriana Anelli and the couple have a daughter.

Life and career

Even during his apprenticeship as a locksmith Leo Nucci began in 1957 to have his voice trained with Mario Bigazzi and continued his vocal studies at Giuseppe Marchesi then in Bologna in the years 1959-1968 continued. While still a student he won in 1967 Marchesis a singing competition in Spoleto. This success earned him his first stage appearance as a Figaro in Il Barbiere di Siviglia by Rossini. However, he took no first solo career, but became a member of the choir of the Teatro alla Scala. After renewed studies with Maestro Ottoviano Bizzani in Milan he won in 1973 a further Competition ( Concours de Vercelli) and debuted as a soloist again, this time in the title role in Verdi's Rigoletto. After some time of Italian provincial theaters in 1976 was his debut at La Scala in Milan, which earned him a sensational success. This was followed in the next few years Debuts at all major opera houses of the world ( Royal Opera House Covent Garden London, Vienna State Opera, the New York Metropolitan Opera). Since this debut, he enters the world for over 30 years with great success in his extensive repertoire of over 45 roles. But the role of Rigoletto has over 400 times sung Nucci. He has worked with almost every major conductor and vocal colleagues and took a barely manageable number of records and CDs.

In July 2010 he performed at the Opera Festival in Solothurn as Rigoletto at the side of Celso Albelo ( Duke of Mantua ) and Eva Lind ( Gilda ).
