Leo of Vercelli

Leo of Vercelli (*, ? † 1026) was from 998 bishop of the Italian city of Vercelli. As a key advisor to the emperor Otto III. he contributed not only to the design of the rule conception ( Renovatio Imperii Romanorum ) but continued the imperial claims against the antipope John Philagathos and in his own diocese with a vengeance through. After the death of Otto III. Leo had in his diocese to defend his position against the encroachments of the Margrave and later Italian King Arduin of Ivrea at gunpoint. However, it was also the Emperor Henry II the position of Leo's hardly support, although this asked him for help.
