Leo Tindemans

Listen to Leonard Clemence "Leo" Tindemans? / I ( born April 16, 1922 in Zwijndrecht, Antwerp ) was April 25, 1974 to October 20, 1978 Prime Minister of Belgium.

From 1965 to 1973 he was mayor of Edegem. When the European People's Party was founded on 8 July 1976 was elected the first president. In the same year he was awarded the Charlemagne Prize. He urged the "community of fate Europe " as the " strongest economy " in the world. On 7 October 1980 Tindemans was re-elected as Chairman of the EPP. From 1979 to 1981 and 1989 to 1999 he was a member of the European Parliament.

Tindemans is an honorary member of the Catholic Student Association Unitas Wroclaw to Cologne in CT.
