Leofwine Godwinson

Leofwine Godwinson (* 1035, † October 14, 1066 at the Battle of Hastings ) was the son of Earl Godwin of Wessex Wulfnothson and brother of the English King Harold Godwinson brief. He was also Earl of Kent.

Leofwine came from the most powerful noble family in Anglo-Saxon England. He died in an early phase of the Battle of Hastings, in which he led the left flank of the British army.

Leofwine gave his brother, the King Harold, before the battle, to lead the troops to protect the king and to not fully disclose by a probable defeat by the Normans the kingdom. The troops were after the battle of Stamford Bridge against the invasion of Norway Harald Hardradas that before the Norman invasion took place just two weeks, exhausted and could not have their full strength. Leofwine advised his brother, therefore, to stop the looting of the southern English counties by Norman troops by a smaller army under his leadership. He wanted to gain time until the English army had regained full strength and the king to be able to the Norman Duke William the Bastard, later called " the Conqueror" oppose, and to force a decisive battle.

King Harold did not respond to the advice of his brother and lost at the Battle of Hastings Kingdom and life.
