Leon Niemczyk

Leon Niemczyk (* December 15, 1923 in Warsaw, † November 29, 2006 in Łódź) was a Polish actor.

Life

Leon Niemczyk tried to flee in the late 1940s with his brother Ludwik from Stalinist Poland. Together, they were caught and came for republic escape jail. After the dismissal Leon Niemczyk began to work as shipyard workers in Gdansk. There, a workers' theater was set up, where he gained his first experience as an actor. During one of the performances he was spotted by film people from Łódź.

Niemczyk was since the 1950s, one of the outstanding actor in Poland. He played in all major Polish film directors. Some of his films are known to this day legends of Polish cinema and beyond the borders of Poland. He played in 1962 starring in Roman Polanski's early work, Knife in the Water. Altogether he appeared in over 150 films. Other legendary Movies: Night Train (1959 ) by Jerzy Kawalerowicz, The Crusaders (1960 ) by Aleksander Ford based on the novel by Henryk Sienkiewicz, The she-wolf (1983) and shortly before his death Inland Empire (2006) by David Lynch. Also in DEFA productions, he was frequently seen, as Council Mentzel in the miniseries Saxony shine and Prussia's Glory and in several DEFA Indian films.
