Leon Rutherford Taylor

Leon R. Taylor ( born October 26, 1883 in Asbury Park, New Jersey, † April 1, 1924 in Denver, Colorado ) was an American politician and 1913-1914 Acting Governor of the State of New Jersey.

Career

Leon Taylor attended Denison University in Ohio. After a subsequent law studies he began in New Jersey to work as a lawyer. He became a member of the Democratic Party. Then he became a deputy in the New Jersey General Assembly; in 1913 he was its president. Since March 1913 the time was governor James Fairman Fielder in office, who had elected to the U.S. President Woodrow Wilson replaced. Fielder sought in November 1913 re-election. This was only constitutionally possible if he was not governor of the state at the time of the election, because a direct re-election was forbidden by the state constitution. Therefore, Fielder became effective on October 28, 1913 back by an official and Taylor had to take over as president of the House of Representatives, the Office of the Governor. After Fielder was then re-elected in November, gave him Taylor office on January 20, 1914 in accordance with the Constitution back. He was almost three months governor of New Jersey.

After that, Taylor withdrew from politics. He was still working as a lawyer and was involved with the Red Cross, the regional manager, he was 1917-1919. Leon Taylor died on April 1, 1924 in Denver.
