Léonard Daghelinckx

Gustave Léonard Daghelinckx ( born April 10, 1900 in Borgerhout, Antwerp; † March 3, 1986 ) was a Belgian racing cyclist.

Between 1920 and 1924, Léonard Daghelinx four times Belgian champion in the sprint of the amateurs. Twice he took part in the Olympic Games: in 1920 in Antwerp he started the sprint and race in tandem ( with John Verhoeven ). In both disciplines, he left already made ​​in the flow.

In Paris in 1924 won Daghelinckx with the Belgian railway quad ( Rik Hoevenaers, Fernand Saive, Jean Van Den Bosch) the bronze medal. In the semifinals, the Belgian team lost against the Italian, who won the team pursuit four years earlier. Two races were run: the first run, Italy won against Belgium, but since one of the Belgian driver was driving with a flat tire since the first round, the jury decided to let repeat the run. But even this second run won the favored team from Italy. Daghelinckx also launched in the 50 -kilometer scratch race, but which he did not finish.

After his cycling career Daghelinckx opened a butcher shop in Borgerhout. He also founded an import business for horse meat.
