Léonard de Hodémont

Léonard ( Collet ) de Hodémont (* 1575 in Liege, † in August 1636 ) was an active in the Prince-Bishopric of Liège composer.

Life

Léonard de Hodémont received his musical training at the Lambert Liege Cathedral and from 1595 at the University of Leuven. 1612 he was a canon at the cathedral Lambertus, on October 26, 1616 choirmaster ( maître de chant ), a post which he held until February 25, 1633.

The compositional work consists mainly of religious works, but also profane music. In his style of composition, he was open to coming from Italy currents of the Baroque. Hodémonts work was a major influence on the music of the early 17th century in the Prince-Bishopric of Liège. His work had an influence on younger composers in the Cathedral, as Lambert Pietkin and Henry Du Mont, who later became Kapellmeister of the French king Louis XIV.
