Leonard Orban

Leonard Orban ( born June 28, 1961 in Braşov ) is a Romanian politician, brother of the liberal politician Ludovic Orban (PNL ). He is married and father of a child.

After studying mechanical engineering at the University of Braşov he worked in a tractor factory. In addition to his profession he was still studying Management at the Academy of Economic Studies in Bucharest.

Since 1993 active in politics, in 2001 he was a member of the negotiating team for Romanian accession to the EU. In December 2004, he was chief negotiator and at the same time Secretary of the Ministry for European Integration.

On 30 October 2006 struck him Calin Popescu Tăriceanu Romania as a candidate for the European Commission, Commission President José Manuel Durão Barroso participated in the nomination. With the consent of the European Parliament he was from January 2007 to February 2010 Commissioner for Multilingualism.
