Leonard Spigelgass

Leonard Spigelgass (* November 26, 1908 in New York City; † February 15, 1985 in Los Angeles County, California ) was an American screenwriter and film producer.

Life and work

From 1938 Spigelgass at Universal Studios as a solid writer under contract. A total of eleven films for which he wrote the screenplay, won the Oscar, and in 1937, he got himself a nomination for best screenplay. As a playwright he wrote, among other pieces Dear Me the Sky Is Falling, The Wrong Way Light Bulb, A Remedy for Winter and the comedy A Majority of One. The latter was filmed in 1961 by Mervyn LeRoy and appeared in Germany under the title 1000 miles to Yokohama.

In addition to his work as a screenwriter wrote Spigelgass novels such as Million Dollar Baby and Fed to the Teeth. He was also involved in Edward G. Robinson's autobiography ( All My Yesterdays ).

During the Second World War he was a colonel in the U.S. Army Signal Corps and worked as an editor at the magazine " Army, Navy Screen Magazine".

He was buried at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery.
