Leonard is a city in Fannin County in the U.S. state of Texas in the United States.

Geography

The city is located on U.S. Highway 69 in northeast Texas, southwest of the county, 42 miles from Oklahoma to the north away and has a total area of 5.1 km ² without significant water surface.

Demographic data

According to the census of 2000, there were 1,846 people in 683 households and 497 families. The population density was 361.8 inhabitants per km ². The racial the population was composed of 84.99 % White, 5.53 % African American, 1.90 % Native American, 0.11 % Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander residents from the and 5.69 % from other ethnic groups. Approximately 1.79% were of mixed descent, and 7.85 % of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.

Of the 683 households 39.4% had children under the age of 18 living with them. 55.9 % were married couples living together. 13.8% were single mothers and 27.2% were non-families. 25.2 % of all households were single-person households, and 13.9% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.65 and the average family size to 3.16 persons.

30.2% of the population were under 18 years old, 8.9% from 18 to 24, 27.7 % 25-44, 19.4% from 45 to 64, and 13.9 % who were 65 years or older. The average age was 33 years. For every 100 females of all ages were 93.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, 82.8 males.
