Leone Strozzi

Leone Strozzi (* October 15, 1515, † June 28, 1554 at Scarlino ) was a diplomat of the Order of Malta in Constantinople and Opel Admiral of the French Navy.

Life

Leone Strozzi was the son of Filippo Strozzi the Younger (1488-1538) and Clarice Strozzi, nee de ' Medici (1493-1528) and a brother of Piero Strozzi ( 1510-1558 ). He was unmarried and without issue.

After his father's defeat at the Battle of Montemurlo he fled with his brothers to France at the court of Catherine de Medici. Later he fought against Cosimo I de ' Medici at the Battle of Marciano della Chiana Scannagallo at, but lost again.

He joined in 1530 with the Order of Malta. The Knights of Malta became the Prior of Capua and served from 1536 to 1552 as commander of the Order of galleys. Leone Strozzi was 1544 Ambassador of Malta in Constantinople Opel.

Later Strozzi was an admiral in the French Navy, where he played numerous battles against Spain and England.

He fell in 1554 at the siege of Scarlino in Tuscany during the unsuccessful defense of the Republic of Siena to Florence and imperial troops through the ball a arquebus.
