Leonhard Beck

Leonhard Beck ( * 1480 in Augsburg, † 1542 ) was a German painter, draftsman and wood engraver.

Life and work

Son of Johann Georg Beck, of which two Psalter manuscripts are preserved ( around 1495 ). Beck became a pupil of Holbein and worked with this since 1500 at the Dominican Altarpiece in Frankfurt. In 1503 he received the Master right in Augsburg. Extensively is his woodcuts, which comprises more than 300 sheets; these include illustrations in Theuerdank and Weißkunig. My paintings are barely saved, and two do not get through certificates backed frescoes in the church of St. Moritz in Augsburg. One of the most famous works is The St. George Struggling with the Dragon, which is on display in the Kunsthistorisches Museum in Vienna.
