Leonid Utyosov

Leonid Ossipowitsch Utyosov - was a (Russian Леонид Осипович Утёсов, real name Lazar ( Lejser ) White leg, Russian Лазарь ( Лейзер ) Иосифович Вайсбейн; ; * Märzjul 9 / 21 March 1895greg in Odessa † 9 March 1982 in Moscow.. ) popular Jazz singer, bandleader and actor in the Soviet Union.

Life

Utyosov was born in 1895 into a Jewish family in Odessa. He made his first artistic steps in 1911 with a theater, with whom he traveled across the country and also appeared in Moscow and Leningrad. End of the 20s he built his first jazz orchestra. His first venue was the little Opera in Leningrad, where he celebrated the first great successes. Even in the aftermath Utyosov was the charismatic leader and frontman of his bands. In 1934, he appeared in Jolly Fellows, the first movie musical of the Soviet Union. Even after Utyosov appeared regularly in films as an actor.

On music genres he covered a wide range from: Jazz (especially the swing style of the 1930s ) was one just as important as Soviet popular music ( Estrada ), film scores and recordings with so-called rogue chansons.

On 9 May 1945, he joined alongside other musicians on the Red Square in Moscow with the victory celebrations at the end of World War II on. He was until his death an active musician. To date, he is one of the most important artists in the first decades of the Soviet Union.

In 1965 he was awarded the People's Artist of the USSR. Died in 1982 Utyosov in Moscow.
