Leonidas Sabanis

Leonidas Sampanis (Greek Λεωνίδας Σαμπάνης also Leonidas Sabanis, born October 20 or October 28, 1971 in Korçë, Albania as Luan Shabani ) is a former weightlifter and a major in the Greek Air Force.

Life

Leonidas Sampanis was born in Albania, he was a Greek citizen in 1993.

At the 1996 Summer Olympics he won the bantamweight ( to 59 kg) the silver medal. The same he succeeded in 2000 in Sydney featherweight ( to 62 kg).

At the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens Leonidas Sampanis scored the third best result at featherweight; due to exceeding the maximum allowable testosterone value by twice awarded him the first bronze medal, however, was revoked and given to Israel Jose Rubio. In addition, he was sentenced to six months in prison because of this doping offense by a court in Athens.
