Leopold Biberti

Leopold Biberti (born 18 September 1894 in Berlin, † November 24, 1969 in Frankfurt am Main ) was a Swiss actor.

Life

Leopold Biberti was the son of opera singer Robert Biberti and the pianist Emilie Beral. As a native of France, he grew up in Berlin. Like his brother Robert Biberti, he had inherited his musical talent from his parents. Early on, he played the piano.

At the Royal Theatre in Berlin, he joined his training as an actor. 1912 began his theater career. From 1914 Biberti played for several years in Switzerland. He lived during this time in Bern and learned the Bernese dialect. He received the Swiss citizenship 1920. Additional engagements took him back to Germany. After the takeover by the Nazis in 1933 he returned to Switzerland.

Biberti occurred at the Stadttheater Basel and at the Schauspielhaus Zurich. His figure and his voice were suitable especially for plays of William Shakespeare and Henrik Ibsen. Impressive was his interpretation of Othello. The perfect bilingual Biberti also played in western Switzerland and after the war in France. From 1950 he played and staged at the Comedy Basel, which he co-founded. Later, other theater tours followed in Germany, where he performed alongside the classics as well as modern pieces by Jean Anouilh, Max Frisch and Friedrich Dürrenmatt. In addition to his stage work, he was obliged for radio plays.

His screen debut was in 1937 in the film Kleine Scheidegg. After further Starring Leopold hired him Lindtberg for four of his films. The film De Wyberfind was prepared from material already turned from the film The 8th Schwyzer, who was banned in 1940 and performed until 1981. He was seen in the 1945 educational film fight the cancer. After six years of absence Biberti returned with Uli the Tenant by Franz Schnyder on the canvas back. In addition to Käthe Gold and Maria Schell starred in Rose Bernd Wolfgang Staudte. From 1960 he turned television films in Germany.

Leopold Biberti was married to Traude Pulfer since 1937. He died of heart failure during a theater tour in Germany.
