Leopold II, Margrave of Austria

Leopold II, the Beautiful, also Liutpold (* 1050, † October 12, 1095 probably in Gars am Kamp ) was Margrave of Austria from the House of Babenberg. He was born as the son of Margrave Ernst of the Brave and Adelheid († 1071 ), daughter of Margrave Dedo I ( also Dedo ) of Meissen and secured his succession in 1075. In the dispute between the papacy and the monarchy ( the Investiture Controversy ), he turned to the Gregorian camp and was then deposed by the king. Duke Vratislav II of Bohemia was invested with the Margraviate of Leopold and defeated at the Battle of mail mountain on May 12, 1082nd Nevertheless, Leopold was able to keep as sovereign. In 1084 he submitted to King Henry IV and has been confirmed by this in his Margrave office.

Leopold died probably in Gars am Kamp.
