Leopold von Pebal

Leopold von Pebal ( born December 29, 1826 in Seckau, † February 17, 1887 in Graz) was an Austrian chemist.

Life and work

Pebal studied at the Technical University Graz first Jurassic and later chemistry. There he received his doctorate in 1851 and remained thereafter for research purposes in several of his time on. From 1857 to 1865 he held the Chemistry Department at the University of Lviv and then moved to the University of Graz. There he built on the Graz chemical Institute, which also served other universities such as Berlin, Zurich or Strasbourg as a model.

Pebals far-flung area of ​​research ranging from the physical to organic chemistry, he dealt among other things with the electrochemistry, chlorine oxides and the chemistry of citric acid.
