Leoš Čermák

Leos Cermak (born 13 March 1978 in Třebíč, Czechoslovakia) is a Czech ice hockey player who is under contract with HC Kometa Brno in the Czech Extraliga since 2011.

Career

Leos Cermak began his career in his hometown in the youth teams of SK Slavia Horacka Třebíč. For the first team of the club he made his debut during the 1997/98 season in the sub-prime first league. In the following two seasons, he established himself in the men's team, before switching to HC Slavia Prague in 2000.

Middle of the season 2001/ 02 he moved within the Extraliga for HC Vitkovice, with whom he reached the playoff finals and was behind the HC Sparta Prague runner-up. After this success, he left the Czech Republic and signed a contract with the Russian Super league club Sibir Novosibirsk HK. A year later, he returned to his native country to play in the next three years for the White Tigers Liberec. With the white tigers he reached the playoff semi-finals, in which they, however, the eventual champions, the HC Moeller Pardubice, failed in the game in 2004/05. A year later, Liberec won the regular season, but failed in the quarter- finals on HC České Budějovice.

2006 Cermak came back for 22 games for HC Slavia Prague, the season ended but again in Liberec. In the playoffs, the season 2007 /08 Cermak was one of the most productive players in the league and led his team into the play-off semi-finals. Due to the benefits shown he received a contract with the KHL club and Russian champions Salavat Yulaev Ufa, with whom he indeed won in the 2008/ 09 season, the regular season, but left early as the second round playoff. After this failure Čermáks contract was not renewed and he opted for a change to HK Sibir Novosibirsk. In the 2010/11 season he was the league rivals Torpedo Nizhny Novgorod under contract. For the 2011/12 season he returned to his Czech homeland and the HC Kometa Brno joined from the Extraliga.

Internationally

Leos Cermak was appointed for the first time in his career in the Czech national team during the 2001 /02 and participated in the Karjala Cup 2002. Since 2006 he is regularly used in the preparation games and tournaments of Euro Hockey Tour, but was never nominated for a World Cup or Olympic Winter Games.
