Lepidodactylus

Virgin Gecko ( Lepidodactylus lugubris )

The genus belongs to the family of the Lepidodactylus geckos ( Gekkonidae ), and reaches a length of about 8 cm.

Among the 32 species particularly the Virgin gecko or gecko shed Lepidodactylus lugubris is striking because it covers more populated due to natural behaviors new regions and sometimes long distances. Whether the zoologists have christened this light tinted lizard lugubris ( dark ) to play on the nocturnal habits of the animal, is not known.

All geckos of the genus Lepidodactylus colonize the indoaustralische and Pacific islands, most have only a small, sometimes limited to just one island geographic range. The type Lepidodactylus lugubris is found, however, from South East Asia over the Pacific to the west coast of South America. Even in Brazil's Rio de Janeiro has already discovered a colony. The ability of this Geckos, even remote habitats that he could never achieve by its own efforts, develop to be found in its behavior: While the other species of the genus Lepidodactylus not leave their forest habitat and therefore do not come into contact with humans, holds to Lepidodactylus lugubris like on the human dwellings. It is then also that he climbs in boxes, where it is then shipped together with the goods therein.
