Lepoglava

Lepoglava ( German Schön Main) is a town in the County of Varaždin in Croatia.

Location

Lepoglava located in Bednja river valley in the region of Zagorje, eight kilometers south-west of Ivanec.

History

By 1400 Pauline monastery was founded in Lepoglava, which was in 1854 converted into a prison, in addition to others also Josip Broz Tito and the late Cardinal Aloysius Stepinac were imprisoned.

The total community Lepoglava has with 15 other smaller villages 8,283 inhabitants ( 2011 census ).
