Leps is a district of the city of Zerbst / Anhalt in the district of Anhalt- Bitterfeld, in Saxony -Anhalt ( Germany ).

Until December 31, 2009 Leps was an independent municipality with the associated hamlets Eichholz and Kermen. On a municipal area of 21.9 km ² lived 297 inhabitants ( 31 December 2008). On 1 January 2010, the annexation was to Zerbst / Anhalt.

Geography

The village Leps between Zerbst and the Steutzer district Steckby on the Elbe lies on the edge of the Biosphere Reserve Middle Elbe. The terrain near the protected lowland forests ( Steckby - Lödderitzer Forst) is predominantly flat.

The road between Zerbst Leps after Steutz runs parallel to the main road 187a ( Zerbst - Köthen (Anhalt) ). The nearest railway station is 4 km away in Zerbst ( line Magdeburg- Dessau ).

The coat of arms was approved on 11 May 1995 by the regional council of Dessau and registered in the State Archives Magdeburg under the coat of arms registration number 32/1995.

The municipality colors show Gold ( Yellow) - Green.

The municipality consists of the villages of Leps, Kermen and Eichholz. The place Eichholz was first documented in 1173. In the village is a very old fortified church from the year 1189 The place Leps (name of Slavic origin - Hübschmann ). Was first mentioned in 1303. The place Kermen (name of Slavic origin - Masthof ) was first mentioned in documents of 1298 and 1330. He originally belonged to the noble family of Statius and later passed into the possession of the Prince of Anhalt -Zerbst. The place was until 1945 a ducal domain. All three places were among Anhalt. The main industry was up to political change in agriculture. The linden leaves depicted in the crest is a character that has long been used in this community. The three linden leaves symbolize the three villages. The metal gold is an indication of Anhalt. Large parts of the area are forestry corporation in the international biosphere reserve Steckby - Lödderitzer. The color green to symbolize this nature reserve. Leps lives mainly from tourism and fish farming.

The coat of arms was designed by the Heraldry Society "Black Lion" Leipzig and recorded in the Quedlinburg Wappenrolle under QWR II/89017 on 20 May 1989.
