Leroy Carr

Leroy Carr ( born March 27, 1905 in Nashville, Tennessee, † April 29, 1935 in Indianapolis ) was an influential American blues pianist and singer. He was known primarily together with his longtime partner, guitarist Francis " Scrapper " Blackwell, with whom he performed as a duo and recorded.

Life

Born in Nashville, Leroy Carr came at a young age to Indianapolis. He taught himself to play the piano. He left school to get by on the street. Since the music is not earning enough, he had to take a variety of jobs. He was also in the circus and in the army. At times, he was also married.

1928 made ​​Carr and Blackwell first recordings for Vocalion, including the hit song How Long How Long Blues.
