LeRoy Grannis

Life

After training as a dental assistant in 1934, he actively began to take an interest in photography. His recordings were limited mainly on surfing.

Due to an ulcer LeRoy Grannis began on the advice of his physician to step up as a therapy and as a balance to his work, his hobby photography for surfing. He followed the advice of his doctor first with a 35 mm camera and a 400 mm lens. Next he set his or her own darkroom in a garage.

He founded one of the major surf magazines, " The Surfer ," in which his photos have been published. So he created his first selling recordings, which were later assembled into photo books. He knew how to combine the nature in the form of waves, surf and beaches with surfers into works of art. Thus he became one of the most successful surf photographer of the sixties and seventies.
