Lerum

Lerum is a locality ( tätort ) in the Swedish province of Västra Götaland County and capital of the municipality of the same name. The place name is composed of the parts ler ( clay) and to (home, courtyard, village ).

The town is located east of Gothenburg on the European road 20 and the railway line that connects Gothenburg with Stockholm. In the area where rivers meet Säveån and LERAN, was initially a village that continues to spread. With the industrial revolution, Lerum developed for commercial center. The settlement grew along with the places Stenkullen and Aspen, which had arisen at breakpoints of the railway. With the expansion of Gothenburg in the second half of the 20th century Lerum received more and more suburban character.

The school Lerums high school is centrally located in the city.

In 1987, a serious railway accident at Lerum, in which two trains collided head-on with 100 km / h occurred. Nine people died and 130 were injured.
