Les Chalesmes

Les Chalesmes is a commune in the French department of Jura in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Les Chalesmes is located on 936 m above sea level. M., about eleven miles southeast of downtown Champagnole (air line). The farming village extends in the Jura, on the plateau south of the Val de Sirod, at the northwest foot of the chains of Haute Joux.

The area of ​​9.47 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the French Jura. The main part of the territory occupied by the plateau of Les Chalesmes, the average of 900 meters above sea level. History

Probably refers to the 13th century, first documented Villa Calamoe the later place Chalesmes. Since the 17th century Les Chalesmes formed its own parish. Together with the Franche -Comté reached the village with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 to France.

Attractions

In the hamlet of Petit Chalesmes stands the church, originally dating from the 13th century and later, especially in the 15th century, remodeled. It has a bell tower in the flamboyant Gothic style; Choir and Portal are preserved from the original building.

Population

With 102 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Les Chalesmes one of the smallest towns in the Jura. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (1891 266 persons were still counted ), only small fluctuations were recorded since the mid- 1970s.

Economy and infrastructure

Les Chalesmes was until well into the 20th century a predominantly coined by agriculture, especially dairy farming and livestock village. Even today, the inhabitants live on the merits of the activity in the first sector. Outside of the primary sector, there are few jobs in the village. Some employed persons are also commuters who engage in the surrounding larger towns of their work.

The village is located off the major thoroughfares on a secondary road that leads from Nozeroy to Les Planches -en- Montagne.
