Les Charbonniers de l'enfer

Les Charbonniers de l' Enfer ( " The coal men of Hell " ) is an A cappella folk band from Quebec City in Canada. The band exists since more than 10 years and is regarded as the first group of Quebec, which has specialized in the unaccompanied singing of traditional music. The musicians themselves for more than 30 years include regional folk music scene already. The instrumental accompaniment is limited to the Jew's harp and the Foot Tapping. The musicians also work in other projects and performances by the Charbonniers are comparatively rare. Among others, two former members of La Bottine Souriante ( Michel Bordeleau and André Marchand ) with are.

The song texts are taken from the folkloric tradition and treat the problems of love, marriage and religion.

2003 and 2006, the group won the Félix Award ADISQ ( Association québécoise de l'industrie du disque ) for the best traditional album of the year.
