Les Crozets

Les Crozets is a commune in the French department of Jura in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Les Crozets is located at 830 m above sea level. M., about ten kilometers north-northwest of the town of Saint -Claude (air line). The farming village extends in the Jura, in a hollow in the headwaters of Lison (tributary of Bienne ), in a wooded area in the western high Jura.

The area of ​​7.61 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the French Jura. The landscape is dominated by natural features such as ridges and troughs, which are oriented in North-South direction. The area is drained by three headwaters of the Lison that flow through longitudinal troughs and unite in an erosion valley on the southern edge of the municipality of soil. The trough of Les Crozets is flanked to the west by the ridge of the Forêt de Moirans ( 931 m above sea level. M. ), to the east and northeast of the heights of the Forêt des Piards ( 1005 m above sea level. M. ). The eastern boundary runs along the ridge of the Bois de la Sourde, on 1064 m above sea level. The area of Les Crozets is part of the Parc Naturel Régional du Haut- Jura.

At Les Crozets the hamlet of Les Crozets - du-Haut include (840 m above sea level. M. ) in a trough on the southern edge of the Forêt des Piards as well as some individual farms. Neighboring municipalities of Les Crozets are Étival and Les Piards in the north, Leschères in the east, the south and Ravilloles Moirans -en- Montagne in the West.

History

The municipality of Les Crozets was already inhabited in Gallo- Roman times. First mentioned, however, the place is only in the 14th century. The place name is from the old French word creuset (small ditch ) is derived. Since the Middle Ages Les Crozets belonged to the dominion of the Abbey of Saint -Claude. Together with the Franche -Comté reached the village with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 to France.

Population

With 215 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Les Crozets one of the small towns in the Jura. Once the population has consistently had in the first half of the 20th century in the range of approximately 220 people, a slight decrease in population was recorded since the 1960s.

Economy and infrastructure

Les Crozets was until well into the 20th century a predominantly coined by agriculture, especially livestock and dairy farming, as well as by the forestry village.
