Les Cullayes

Les Cullayes was until 31 December 2011, a municipality in the district of Lavaux-Oron in the canton of Vaud in Switzerland. On January 1, 2012, it merged with Servion.

Geography

Les Cullayes is located on 836 m above sea level. M., 11 km north-east of the canton capital Lausanne ( straight line ). The scattered settlement municipality extends on an open plateau, on the eastern slopes of the plateau of the Jorat, in the Vaud Mittelland.

The area of ​​2.1 km ² large former municipal area includes a portion of the Molassehöhen between the Jorat and the upper reaches of the Broye. The western border is the slightly deepened in the molasse headwaters Bressonne. From here, the former communal land extends eastward across the clearing island of Les Cullayes (on the above 838 m. M. the highest point of the former municipality reached) and a valley floor up to the hill Bois de Villars (up to 835 m above sea level. M. ). To the northeast, the area extends to the edge of the broad Talniederung of Carrouge. In the south of the border along the forest edge of the Bois du Grand Jorat runs. From the former rural community area in 1997 accounted for 15 % settlements, 9% of forest and woody plants and 76 % to agriculture.

At Les Cullayes include Hofsiedlungen Le Bougnon (812 m above sea level. M. ) northwest and Les Moures (814 m above sea level. M. ) east of the village as well as several individual farms.

Population

With 674 inhabitants (as at 31 December 2011) Les Cullayes one of the smaller former municipalities of the canton of Vaud. Of the 88.7 % inhabitants are French-speaking, German-speaking 8.0 % and 1.1 % portugiesischsprachig (as of 2000). The population of Les Cullayes amounted in 1850 to 264 residents in 1900 to 219 inhabitants. Thereafter, by strong emigration to 1960 recorded a decrease to 138 inhabitants. Since then, there was a rapid increase in population with a fivefold increase in population within 40 years.

Economy

Les Cullayes was until the second half of the 20th century, mainly coined by farming village. Today, the crop and livestock farming have only a minor role in the occupational structure of the population. More jobs are in small local manufacturing and services available. In recent years, new businesses have located in Les Cullayes established, including an operation for air conditioning and an electrical installation business. Through the construction of single family homes in the past few decades, the village has developed into a residential community. Many workers are therefore commuters who work mainly in Lausanne.

Traffic

The former municipality is located off of larger thoroughfares, but it has a good connection to the main road 1 (Lausanne - Moudon ). By Postbus course, which runs from Montpreveyres to Les Cullayes, the village is connected to the public transport network.

History

The first written mention of the village was carried out in 1359 under the name Culaes. In the dialect ( patois ) long and the shape Les Ecoulayés was used. In the Middle Ages Les Cullayes was part of the rule Vulliens; after 1370 it belonged to the rule Mézières. With the conquest of Vaud by Bern in 1536, the village came under the administration of the bailiwick Moudon. After the collapse of the ancien régime was Les Cullayes 1798 to 1803 during the Helvetic Republic to the canton of Geneva, who came up then with the enactment of the Act of Mediation in the canton of Vaud. 1798 was assigned to the District Oron.

A fusion of Les Cullayes with neighboring communities Mézières, Montpreveyres and Servion was sought, however, failed on January 15, 2006 at the ballot box on tight No of residents of Montpreveyres. The other three municipalities approved the merger. Another popular vote on 28 November 2010, allows alone with Servion however the union; this became final on January 1, 2012.

Attractions

The parish hall was built in 1772. Les Cullayes does not have its own church, it belongs to the parish Mézières.
