Leslie Adams (composer)

Harrison Leslie Adams ( born December 30, 1932 in Cleveland, Ohio) is an American composer and pianist.

Adams studied at Oberlin College composition with Herbert Elwell and Joseph Wood, singing with Robert Fountain and piano with Emil Danenberg. After graduating with a Bachelor 1955 he took private lessons in composition with Robert Starer (1959) and Vittorio Giannini ( 1960). He continued his education at California State University continues with Leon Dallin and Robert Tyndall ( Master's degree in 1967 ) and from 1968 to 1973 at Ohio State University in Marshall Barnes. In postgraduate studies, he attended the University of Kansas with Edward Mattila and at the Cleveland Institute of Music with Eugene O'Brien lessons. He was also a 1978-1983 private student of Marcel Dick.

From 1957 to 1961 Adams worked as a piano accompanist with various ballet companies and dance companies, among others, the Ballets Russes and the choreographer Robert Joeffrey and June Taylor. On Karamou House in his hometown of 1964-65 he worked as musical director and 1979-80 as Composer in Residence. He continued to contribute as a guest composer at the Cuyahoga Community College (1980) and Composer in Residence at the Cleveland Music School Settlement. In 1981 he founded the Accord Associates, Inc., which he ran until 1986, after which he was until 1992 Vice President and Composer in Residence of the Company. Since 1996 he has been music director and choirmaster of Grace Presbyterian Church in Lakewood / Ohio, since 1998 President of Creative Arts, Inc..
